Easy Herbal Compress


A nightly treatment for ongoing eye care.





Ingredients:


1 tsp sage


1/2 cup water


Instructions:


Boil water, steep sage leaves for 10 minutes. Strain, separate water into two bowls. Soak two gauze pads or cotton balls in each bowl, and put one bowl in the refrigerator, then alternate application to eyes: 10 minutes warm, 10 minutes cool.





Alternatively, try substituting chamomile or dill weeds for sage.











Avocado-Almond Rinse


A rich masque for your eyes.





Ingredients:


5 drops almond oil


3 slices ripe avocado


Instructions:


Blend almond oil into avocado, smear around eyes. Rest 5 minutes. Rinse with cool water.

For immediate relief of irritated eyes, mix a teaspoon of salt with 3/4 cup filtered water and flush the entire area.





If you know that you tend to have problems with puffy or dark-circled eyes, take extra care to avoid the things that irritate them. Drink plenty of water. If you work a desk job, take breaks of at least 60 seconds from staring at the computer screen every 15 minutes during the day.





The best cure for puffy eyes is the simplest, yet somehow the hardest to achieve: Get more sleep.
In addition to a cream make sure that you're properly hydrated. When you are those wrinkles aren't as deep and the sleep lines either don't happen or they fade quickly.





Brand-wise...eh, I go really simple with my moisturizers. As long as it's water-based and has sunscreen you'll be fine - the fancy stuff isn't worth the extra cost when it comes right down to results.

im 32, and i really love oil of olay. the regenerist line is really good. i have done alot of research for myself on facial care, and have learned that the drug store brands like oil of olay work just as well, if not better than those really expensive brands that celebrities use.. alot of doctors have said that..





i also use avons under eye stuff before and i like it.. i try to pick a moisturizer with SPF in it also, or make sure my facial powder has it in it.. it helps prevent wrinkles too.

Have any of you successfully declined the newborn antibiotic eye cream/drops? Did they give you a hard time?

I did delay it for the initial bonding period, since it obscures their vision, and I had read/heard that this it is important for their development to get a good close-up view of their parents immediately after being born. I wish I had declined it altogether, but I hadn't done enough research to know. However, I know they wouldn't have given me a hard time about it, because I walked into the nursery with my husband and my baby and stood right over her while they did what they needed to do. I did not allow them to bathe her, because they would have required almost 2 hours under the warming lamps to stabilize her temperature, and I didn't want us to be separated for that long. Crazy!! Anyway, so the nurse just asked us what we did and didn't want done, so it wouldn't have been a problem if we had said no. I was never 'offered' any, it was done as part of their normal procedure.


However, IF I had been given the 'option' I would not have declined.


I think the antibiotic cream/drops are a benefit.


My husband just got back surgery and he was given antibiotic cream/drops before the procedure to reduce infection, and he's a grown man. If it will benefit my baby, I have no problem with it.





The drops are given to prevent ANY infection/bacteria from getting into the eyes. It's also done before a major surgery in adults.





I also believe in vaccinations.





If YOU choose not to get the cream/drops, I don't think the Doctor will have a problem with it.

Ya know, I intended to when my baby was born but I completely forgot, I was still riding that natural childbirth high!! But we have refused all vaccines and have not had any hassle from his doctor.
It is law in some states that your baby has these drops...why wouldn't you give these to your babies...without it they could go blind...seriously I am a nurse and have studied this

No. Why wouldn't you want to get it? It's a precautionary measure.
No even with my homebirth transfer with no records going with me (long story) they didn't hassle me and where I live you technically can't decline the eye drops, the doctor is supposed to report you to public health and the can (in theory) take the baby away and do it.





PS Even if you had one of the STDs that can cause severe eye infections leading to blindness there is no way on earth you could miss the signs of infection.

There is a HORRIBLE picture of a baby with the disease -- eyes --really the entire upper face -- swollen and distorted, red, oozing yellow pus. Believe me, it looks nothing like any conjunctivitis I have ever seen. I can't imagine anyone not noticing it, or ignoring it.

Try Liz Earlies eye cream (day) and her smoothing line serum at night. They really work well and are not too expensive. From a man's point of view I have used Clarins Eye Serum for men. It may be a bit harsh for women though and they do an alternative version for you.
when my lower lids get real cracked I use lip balm, it works.
benifit eyecon is good it is quite expensive but its worth it,you have to use it frequently to benefit from it.

I have been trying out different eye creams around my eyes. I've noticed that I've started to form wrinkles, dark circles and slight baginess under my eyes. I've used St. Ives Vit. K cream for the dark circles, L'oreal Hydrafresh, Nivea Eyezone (with Q10), L'oreal RevitaLift Eye and Oil of Olay Total Effects. But I don't use them long enough to see the results.
